PM declares Sikkim as India’s first organic state

modi-sikkimPrime Minister Narendra Modi has declared Sikkim as the first organic state in the country. PM handed over the Organic Certificate to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.

“Sikkim has paved its way into history and has set an example to the entire world that nature needs care and protection”, Modi said while addressing the National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare at Chintan Bhawan.

On a two-day visit to Sikkim, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Governor Srinivas Patil and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling who were accompanied by cabinet ministers and heads of all state government departments.

PM added the state will soon become the harbinger of organic farming not only in India but around the world.
